Description
Severn Springs Farmhouse and two attached barns are likely from the 17th century, with later additions and alterations. The farmhouse is timber framed with red brick infill, while the barns are built on a coursed limestone rubble plinth and have plain tile roofs. The farmhouse has undergone significant changes in the mid-20th century, featuring a prominent two-storey gable on the left and two gabled eaves dormers on the right above a contemporary glazed entrance porch. However, it retains its timber frame on the back wall and left gable end, with the most notable feature being the tapering external red brick end stack on the left.
The two former threshing barns, each consisting of four bays, are attached to the south and are open to the roof, except for a loft over the north bay of the north barn. The framing includes square and rectangular panels, with three from the cill to the wall-plate and long straight tension braces. There are wide double doors in the former threshing entrances located in the third bay from the south in the south barn and the second bay from the south in the north barn. The interior features double-purlin roofs with a mix of Queen-struts and raking struts from tie beams that support the principal rafters. A cowshed projecting at right angles to the west at the south end of the south barn is not included in the listing.
