Description

BUILDWAS C.P. - SJ 60 SW 5/4 Severn Springs Farmhouse and 2 attached barns II Farmhouse and 2 attached barns. Probably mid- and late C17 with later additions and alterations. Timber framed with red brick infill (barns on coursed limestone rubble plinth), plain tile roofs. Farmhouse: considerably altered mid-C20; prominent 2-storey C20 gable to left and 2 gabled eaves dormers to right over contemporary glazed entrance porch but retains timber frame to back wall and left gable end; most notable feature is the tapering external red brick end stack to left. 2 former threshing barns, each of 4 bays, attached to south, open to roof except for loft over north bay of north barn; framing: square and rectangular panels, 3 from cill to wall-plate, long straight tension braces; wide double doors in former threshing entrances in third bay from south in south barn and second bay from south in north barn. Interior: double-purlin roofs have a mixture of Queen-struts and raking struts from tie beams supporting principal rafters. Cowshed projecting at right- angles. to west at south end of south barn is not included.
