Description
This barn, located immediately to the south-west of Springwood Poultry Farmhouse, dates from the 17th century and has undergone some alterations over time. It features box framing, with one wall replaced in stone and another in brick. The structure has a stone plinth, brick nogging, and a 20th-century asbestos roof.
The barn consists of three bays, with a central threshing floor flanked by shippons on either side that have haylofts above. The central cart entry is topped with a timber lintel, while two shippon doors, one of which is blocked, have stone lintels. The left and rear elevations are framed in square panels and include diagonal braces and honeycomb vents. The frame is largely intact on two sides, except for a large 19th-century buttress and a small lean-to extension at the rear. Inside, a pegged king-post roof truss and a crosswall support the original purlins and rafters.
