Description

Margery Thorn Farm consists of a farmhouse and barn dating from the 17th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The structure features a timber frame with brick infill, along with extensions made of red brick and rubble, topped by a plain tile roof. There is a brick and rubble stack with an oven on the right gable and a brick stack at the front left corner of the house. The barn is two bays wide and located to the left of the farmhouse, which is also two bays wide.

The house has two storeys and includes two two-light casement windows. Above these windows is a brick dentilled cornice. The ground floor features two windows with segmental heads, flanking a central ledged door, which is also under a segmental head. This front section replaces the original framed wall. The framing of the house includes three square panels up to the wall-plate, with two queen struts supporting the collar in the roof.

The barn's framing is continuous with that of the house but has been partially replaced with rubble on the ground floor. It is weatherboarded, and there is a single-storey rubble lean-to on the main front. The entire front wall-plate was raised when the house was remodeled. Inside the house, there is a range and racks in the right-hand room, and a single door at the rear of the cross-passage connects the barn to the house.
