Description

Thorpe Farmhouse and Barn is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the 17th century with 19th-century alterations and additions. The building features roughcast, likely over timber framing, an old plain-tile roof, and red brick stacks. It has a U-shaped plan with cross-wings at the rear and is two stories high with a four-window range. To the left of the center, there is a plank door with an overlight and a hipped plain-tile hood. The windows are irregularly arranged casements, except for angled wooden bays on brackets with casements on both the ground and first floors in the center. The roof has three cross-gables and a shaped ridge stack to the right with a diagonal set flue. The right return shows extensive timber framing with painted brick and rendered infill. Inside, there is extensive beaming and a double queen-post roof construction.

To the rear left is a barn, likely from the early 18th century, which has a red brick base, large timber framing, weatherboarding, and an old plain-tile half-hipped roof. The barn is five bays wide and has aisles on both sides, featuring a central hipped midstrey with double plank doors and additional double plank doors at the rear, along with a curved-principal roof.
