Description

Bussels is a farmhouse and adjoining barn, now converted into a house, dating from the 17th century for the farmhouse and the 18th century for the barn. The building features a long range facing southwest, with a two-room house on the left (northwest) and the former barn on the right. There is a rear lateral stack for the left room and an axial stack for the right room. A single-storey kitchen, roofed with slate from the 19th century, has been added to the left end. The structure is two storeys high, with an overall six-window front featuring 20th-century casements with irregularly placed glazing bars, reflecting the former farmhouse style. The door at the left end is topped by a 20th-century gabled and slate-roofed hood. A former door that may have led to a through passage is now blocked, with two small windows near the barn. The former barn retains slight projecting midstrey walls, and its eaves are lower than those of the house. The roof is half-hipped at each end. Inside, the left room has a mid-17th-century chamfered and scroll-stopped cross-beam, along with an oak lintel finished in the same style above a rubble fireplace. Full-height cob partitions separate the rooms, and a single A-frame oak truss features a 17th-century dovetail lap-jointed collar. A 17th-century oak two-light chamfered mullion window was removed from the cob division between the main house and the former barn. The barn has an 18th-century three-bay roof with pegged lap-jointed collars.
