Description
The Old Forge is a house dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, with rubble or cob stacks topped with 19th-century brick, and features a thatched roof. The building is a two-room cottage that faces east, with an end stack for the right (north) room and a rear lateral stack for the left room. The front has an irregular arrangement of three windows, with the right end projecting forward from the main range. There is a door on the left side that has a late 19th to early 20th-century gabled hood with a slate roof. The windows are a mix of late 19th and 20th-century casements of various sizes, all featuring glazing bars and flat stucco architraves, including 20th-century French windows located left of center. The roof is hipped at both ends. Inside, the carpentry detail is plain. It appears that the left part of the building was originally a one-room cottage, while the right part was originally the forge.
