Description
Step Hill Farmhouse is a farmhouse that includes a former barn, dating from the 17th century for the barn and the late 18th century for the farmhouse, with 20th-century alterations. The barn is timber-framed with brick infill set on a sandstone plinth, while the house is constructed of brick, both topped with a tile roof. The barn has two framed bays aligned north and south, with the house added to the north and featuring a gable-end stack.
On the west front, the house has three storeys above a cellar, with a dentilled brick cornice. It has two windows, which are 3-light casements under segmental heads, and flat heads on the second floor. The central entrance features an open-pedimented doorcase with consoles, and the door has six raised and fielded panels. To the right, the former barn is two storeys tall with irregular fenestration, including a 3-light casement on the first floor and three 2-light casements on the ground floor. The barn's framing consists of three square panels high with straight angle braces.
