Description

Hathouse Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations from the early 18th century and 19th century. It is constructed of rubble and brick, topped with a plain tile roof. The building was originally designed in a T-plan layout, featuring three rooms and a brick stack at the junction. There is a rubble infill block in the northeast angle of the T, likely from the 18th century, and an early 18th-century brick wing added to the south.

The west front of the farmhouse has one and a half to two storeys, with an attic that is lit by a gabled dormer on the left. There is a porch located at the angle of the gabled range, which features a gable truss with six intersecting raking struts and two plank weatherings. The early 18th-century wing to the right is built of brick in a slightly irregular English bond, with blue brick headers at the quoins and dressings. This wing has two storeys above a cellar, and the entrance is located in the right gable, featuring a fielded panel door. To the left corner of the wing, there is a door under a flat canopy supported by scrolled brackets. The rear elevation consists of two bays with glazing bar sashes.

Inside, the 17th-century portion of the farmhouse contains two moulded plank doors, while the early 18th-century brick wing features raised and fielded panel doors. In the southeast corner of the ground floor, there is a fireplace with rounded corners to its surround and a possible spice cupboard above.
