Description
Linthwaite Riding School is a building dating from 1771, as indicated by a datestone on the south elevation. It has been altered over time and features a mid-19th century extension. The structure is made of hammer-dressed stone with quoins and is partly rendered, with a pitched stone slate roof that is covered in bitumen. The gables are coped on footstones.
The building is two storeys high. On the south elevation, the ground floor has an entrance with stone surrounds and tie-stones, alongside a 4-light stone mullioned window that has recessed and chamfered mullions. The first floor features a late 19th century former 2-light window, where the mullion has been removed.
On the east gable, the ground floor has a former 3-light stone mullioned window that has been altered with the mullions removed, while the first floor has a 3-light stone mullioned window that is recessed with chamfered mullions. The west gable includes two 2-light stone mullioned windows. There is also a single-storey lean-to extension, and to the west, a later two-storey extension with a pitched tiled roof.
