SE 01 SE SLAITHWAITE ROAD (Holt Head) 1/44 30th April 1912 Holt Head Sunday School II
Former Sunday School, now disused. Dated 1840. Hammer dressed stone with ashlar dressings and raised quoins to front. Stone slate roof with gable copings and stone brackets to gutter. 3-bay pediment gabled front, symmetrical with central door with pilastered surround and fanlight with cambered head inscribed to memory of those who fell in the 1914-18 war. Cornice over and tablet inscribed: HOLT HEAD GENERAL SUNDAY SCHOOL
The fanlight has painted words: ERECTED 1840 BY VOLUNTARY SUBSCRIPTION Round arched sash windows with marginal glazing, to both floors, with raised key and impost blocks. The centre window, 1st floor, is higher. Two return bays of two storeys with square headed windows with marginal glazing. 5-bay single storey side elevations plus a further bay set back at far end. Square headed windows as before. A good, unspoilt example of a rural type which may originally have incorporated a chapel.
