Description
The former Sunday School, built around 1863, is located behind the Baptist Chapel in Heptonstall Slack. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressings and is a single-storey building. The front features a pedimented gable with broad ashlar quoin pilasters. Tall semi-circular arched windows with expressed keystones are fitted with small pane glazing. In the center, there is an open pedimented gabled porch that includes quoin pilasters and a semi-circular arched doorway with an impost and keystone. The gable has arched ventilators on either side of a plaque that reads 'BUILT BY/ SUBSCRIPTION/A.D.1863'. The building also has heavy copings and bracketed eaves, with a five-bay return that features similar windows. There are two chimney stacks, one on the rear gable and another elsewhere.
