Description
Little Stoneshey Gate and attached Stoneshey Cottage is a 17th-century house that is connected at right angles to a mid-18th-century house. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. It has two storeys and retains two cells from the mid-17th century house, which likely had a three-room plan originally.
On the ground floor, there is a 19th-century doorway to the left of two double chamfered mullioned windows, each with six lights and hoodmoulds that have straight returns. The first floor includes a four-light and a six-light chamfered mullioned window, although some mullions are missing. There are additional mullioned windows located at the rear of the building.
The structure has a tall central stack on the ridge and another stack at the junction with the 18th-century addition. The addition features a coped gable with kneelers and a doorway with monolithic jambs and a chamfered surround to the right of a former two-light chamfered mullioned window, which is mirrored above on the first floor. The left-hand return wall is the main front, showcasing two bays of double chamfered mullioned windows on each floor, with four lights and six lights respectively. The building also has gutter brackets and gable stacks.
