Description
Stoneshey Gate Coachman's Cottage and the attached barn are mid-18th century laithe-houses made of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The building has two and a half storeys on the east side and a single storey on the west, featuring a salt-pie roof. The west elevation faces the road. The barn on the left has a semi-circular arched entrance for carts or carriages, with a sash window above it. To the right of the entrance, there is a doorway flanked by two other windows. At a higher level, the house has a doorway with tie-stone jambs next to a two-light chamfered mullioned window. The building features quoins, coped gables with kneelers, and the left gable has a weathervane. The right return wall includes a three-light chamfered mullioned window on both the ground and first floors, along with a single sash window in a chamfered surround in the attic. The rear of the barn has a similar carriage entry with a Venetian window above it. To the right and set back, there is a five-light chamfered mullioned window with a columbarium above it. A single stack is located on the ridge of the house.
