Description
Ivy Cottage is a former corn merchant’s house dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof and is arranged in an L-shape. The main two-storey section originally comprised a single cell, featuring a three-light mullioned window on each floor, with the central light on the first floor stepped. The building has quoins. A two-and-a-half-storey single cell is set back, with a two-light window to the left of what was formerly a doorway, now blocked and converted into a window. A porch with a flat roof provides a platform for a first-floor entrance door with monolithic jambs; a simple Venetian window with an impost and expressed keystone is to the right, above which is a small blocked light. A single-storey gabled building is attached to the right. The property includes gable stacks. Ivy Cottage belongs to the Yorkshire Baptist Association and served as a tied house for the grave digger.
