Description
Quernmore Old School is a former school and Sunday school, now disused, built in 1850 with some remains from the late 17th century. The building is constructed of sandstone rubble and features a stone slate roof. It is a single-storey structure. The north front has one bay on each side of a gabled porch, which includes windows with plain reveals, pointed heads, and glazing bars. The porch itself has a small window with a plain stone surround on the front wall and a doorway with long-and-short jambs and a stone lintel on the right-hand return wall. To the right of the right-hand window, there is a plaque that reads: 'This school was rebuilt by subscription 1850'. A chimney is located on the left-hand gable, and a ball finial is present on the right-hand gable. The right-hand (west) gable wall features a tall window with a plain stone surround. The rear wall has four 2-light mullioned windows, with the two left-hand ones being rebated and chamfered, while the right-hand ones are chamfered. Inside, one roof truss is made of softwood, while the other is reused and includes a collar and raking queen struts.
