Description
Welby Crag Farmhouse is a house from the late 17th century that has been altered. It is built from sandstone rubble and has a slate roof. Originally designed with an end-lobby entry plan, it has been modified to feature a central entry. The house has two storeys and two bays. The windows have rebated and chamfered surrounds, except for the modern window on the ground floor of the left-hand bay, which has plain reveals and a modern door to its left. The door between the bays has a chamfered surround and a battlemented lintel with a re-cut inscription that reads 'WM 1751'. The former position of the doorway is still visible in the stonework on the right side of the facade. A modern single-storey glazed porch covers part of the facade. There are end chimneys. Inside, the house features chamfered main beams, including one near the right-hand gable wall that was likely a firehood bressummer. The current fireplace is shouldered and of 18th-century style.
