Description
Hare Appletree Farmhouse is a house built in 1682, with some alterations. It is constructed from sandstone rubble and has a stone slate roof, following a T-plan layout. The building has two storeys. The west wall features a drip course that is interrupted by two chamfered stone window surrounds from the 19th century. On either side of these are blocked windows: the right side has a two-light window with a mullion, while the left side has a one-light fire window. On the first floor, there are various windows including one-light and five-light windows, as well as one window that was formerly four lights, retaining one mullion. The house has end chimneys and copings with kneelers.
To the left, there is a lower addition with a slate roof, which includes a flush chamfered mullioned window of 18th-century style on the ground floor and a window with a chamfered surround above. At the rear, some mullioned windows are still present in both the front range and the rear wing. The current front door leads into the lower addition and is sheltered by a 20th-century stone porch. This door features a moulded surround with a shaped lintel inscribed with 'MC 1682 WT', likely removed from the original part of the house, which may have originally had an end lobby entry. Inside, the farmhouse is said to have chamfered beams, a staircase with remaining balusters on the upper landing, and tie-beam trusses.
