Description
The Lower Browtop Farmhouse is a house dating from 1673, with later alterations. It is constructed of rough rubble stone with a stone slate roof. The original house was of a two-cell, end-lobby-entry plan, originally with two bays. It has two storeys. The windows have rebated and chamfered surrounds, with the mullions having been removed. The windows in the left-hand bay were originally of three lights. The right-hand bay retains one mullion in what was formerly a four-light window. The ground floor windows are paired sashes in plain stone surrounds, separated by a square mullion. A doorway on the right-hand side has a cyma-moulded surround and a battlemented lintel inscribed "LP 1673.” To the far right is a bay added in the 19th century, featuring paired windows with plain stone surrounds and a central square mullion; the first-floor windows are fixed with glazing bars, while the ground-floor windows are sashes. Chimneys are located on the gables and to the right of the doorway. A wing extends from the rear (south) side, featuring a window of 18th-century type on its east wall, originally of six lights, with four now blocked.
