Description
Tiding Field Farmhouse and Barn, dating from 1783 as indicated by a datestone on the south elevation, is a Grade II listed building. The barn, which is positioned at a right angle to the house, was built in the early 19th century. The farmhouse is constructed from hammer-dressed stone with quoins and features a pitched stone slate roof with coped gables on carved footstones. It has two storeys and two stacks with water tabling.
On the south elevation of the house, the ground floor includes one four-light stone mullioned window and one seven-light stone mullioned window, although four of its mullions have been removed. The first floor has three three-light stone mullioned windows (with mullions removed) and one two-light stone mullioned window (also with mullions removed). The north elevation features a former small doorway that is blocked and one blocked six-light stone mullioned window. There is a lean-to extension with a catslide stone slate roof, made of hammer-dressed stone with quoins. The first floor of this extension has one two-light stone mullioned window at a high level and one blocked six-light stone mullioned window. The east gable contains a three-light stone mullioned window with one mullion removed, while the west gable has one blocked three-light stone mullioned window and one blocked two-light stone mullioned window, with a stone water waste below.
The barn, situated at a right angle to the house, also has a pitched stone slate roof and a coped gable. Its east elevation features a large doorway with a semicircular arched head, stone surrounds, and tie-stones, along with a small semicircular light at a high level and a small doorway with stone surround and tie-stones. The north elevation includes an outbuilding to the barn, which has a former entrance with a stone surround and tie-stones that is partially blocked.
