Description

15 Ainley Place is a late 18th-century building, originally two cottages. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with quoins, and has a pitched stone slate roof with a coped gable featuring a moulded footstone to the west, along with modern stacks. The south elevation has ground floor doorways with stone surrounds, and modern casements within enlarged openings. The first floor has one six-light stone mullioned window with a King mullion, and a second six-light stone mullioned window, the mullions of which are either new or rendered. The east elevation shows a ground floor two-light stone mullioned window and a first floor three-light stone mullioned window. A later lean-to extension is present on the east gable. The north elevation features a recessed and blocked two-light stone mullioned window on the ground floor, and a three-light stone mullioned window on the first floor. This building holds group value as a well-preserved example of vernacular architecture from the late 18th century.
