Description
This building is a barn and four attached cottages located 10 metres southwest of Number 1 Lower Woodhead Farmhouse. The barn likely dates from the same period as the farmhouse, which was built in 1736, while the cottages were constructed in the late 18th century, with one being added in the mid-19th century. The structure is made of thin coursed hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof.
The barn has quoins and a segmental arched cart entry, with arched windows on either side. At the right end, there is a single-cell cottage with a doorway that has monolithic jambs and a heavy lintel. This cottage also features a two-light flat-faced mullioned window on the ground floor, with a similar window above on the first floor. The left return wall of the barn has three over three arch-headed ventilators and a rectangular light at the apex.
The attached range of cottages is two storeys high and consists of four single cells, each with a doorway that has monolithic jambs and flat-faced mullioned windows. Each cottage has five-light windows on both floors, except for the cottage closest to the barn, which has two-light windows and is the mid-19th century addition. There are remains of three stacks along the ridge.
