Description

Milestone located at Sykes Gate Bottom, dating from 1826. This milestone features an arch-headed stone that is overlaid with cast iron. The top of the milestone displays the inscription: "MYTHOLMROYD & BLACKSTONE EDGE SOWERBY". It has two projecting faces; the left face reads "ROCHDALE" while the right face indicates distances: "MYTHOLM 9 MILES", "ROYD 31/2 MILES", and "HALIFAX 9 1/3 MILES".
