Description
Dean Head is a house with an attached former barn that has been converted for additional accommodation. It likely dates from the late 17th century and is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and originally featured a two-room plan.
On the ground floor, the first two rooms have double chamfered mullioned windows, with six lights in one window and seven in the other. Above these, there are chamfered mullioned windows with six lights on the first floor. A gabled porch marks the division between the house and the barn, which shows signs of disturbed stonework where a former cart entry was located. There are also inserted concrete mullioned windows.
To the right side, a mistal doorway with a chamfered surround remains at a lower level. The right-hand return wall has a former pitching-hole at the apex. The building features quoined angles, and the rear of the first cell projects forward under a cat-slide roof. An original chamfered mullioned window with two lights remains, along with a blocked window above it that had three lights. Most other windows have been replaced with concrete mullioned versions that are intended to match the original style but have incorrect profiles for the lintels and sills. There is a single stack located on the ridge.
