Description

Broad Fold is a house dated 1784, with a barn added in the mid-19th century. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The house is two storeys high and has a double-pile plan, meaning it has two rooms deep. It features two bays of five-light, flat-faced mullioned windows, with matching windows at the rear. A doorway is positioned centrally at the front, featuring monolithic jambs (large, plain stone uprights) and an inscribed stone above reading "H". The building is marked with quoins (cornerstones), and kneelers dated R + M 1784. There are two stacks (chimneys) along the ridge of the roof. The barn includes segmental arched cart entries and mistal doorways, also with monolithic jambs. The property is documented in C.F. Stell’s publication, pages 175 and 177.
