Description
Marsh Grove is a house that has been converted into cottages but is now back to single occupancy. It dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of dressed stone with a slate roof. The building is two storeys high and features a double pile, three-bay symmetrical facade. It has rusticated quoins and a doorway with monolithic jambs, which includes a rectangular fanlight above a six-panelled door. The wide sash windows have plain stone surrounds and slightly projecting sills, and there are moulded gutter brackets. At the rear, there are flat faced five-light mullioned windows, with a wider central sash light in the outer bays. The central bay has paired doorways, one of which is blocked, and a first-floor taking-in door that has been blocked to form a window, all featuring tie-stone jambs. The building has gable stacks and was formerly owned by the Hinchliffe family, a notable local family.
