Description
The building is a former Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, dated 1835. It is located in Cragg Vale, Hebden Royd, and is prominently situated above sloping ground toward the river. The chapel is constructed of dressed stone with an asbestos slate roof. It is two storeys high on the road front, with a full basement storey to the sides and rear. The gable end facing the road has a pediment, with coping peaked to an octagonal chimney stack finial and swept over kneelers. An eaves band defines the pediment and contains a plaque inscribed "WESLEYAN". The symmetrical front of three bays has segmental-headed chapel windows and a doorway, all with impost blocks and keystones, dated 1835. Quoins are present. The return side has similar windows, except the basement windows have straight lintels. A narrower, one-bay extension to the west gable end accommodates an organ loft and features the same chimney finial, kneelers, and windows. The interior has been altered to serve as a residence.
