Description
Castle Gate Works is a small factory built in the early 19th century, located near the junction with Cragg Road. The building is constructed from hammer dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. It stands 2 and a half storeys tall and has quoins. The east front has five bays of windows, each with projecting sills and tie-stone jambs. The central bay includes a basket arched cart entry with rusticated voussoirs, which has been blocked to create a window. Above this entry is a taking-in door. The gable above the three central bays also has another taking-in door leading to the attic, with a square recess at the apex for a cat-head. The right-hand bay contains a doorway with tie-stone jambs. The building has gable stacks and one additional stack. There is a two-bay return that features similar windows across three floors.
