Description

This small factory or warehouse, now empty, dates from the early 19th century. It is built from hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. The building stands three storeys high with an attic and has gable fronts facing the street. There is a doorway with tie-stones and a shop window to the left. On the first floor, there are two windows with projecting sills and tie-stones on the jambs. The second floor has a five-light window with a projecting sill and small glazed panes, while the attic features a three-light stepped window. A chimney is located at the left-hand corner. There are blocked taking-in doors on each floor to the right. The building has a nine-bay return with windows that have plain stone surrounds connected with tie-stones. The left-hand return wall follows the road alignment and includes a shouldered arched cart entry. The right-hand return wall has a segmental arched entry (blocked to form a window) and a first-floor taking-in door. This structure is one of the earliest industrial buildings in the town and is now surrounded by later developments, but it still preserves its original fenestration.
