Description

The Golden Lion Hotel is a public house built in the mid-18th century, with an early 19th-century addition. It features hammer-dressed stone, with the front rendered, and a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and a four-bay facade. The outer bays contain single sashed windows, while the second bay has a semi-circular arched doorway with a hood and consoles above it. There is also a semi-circular arched window with raised impost blocks and a keystone above the doorway. The third bay features a three-light flat faced mullioned window with chamfered jambs. Between the third and fourth bays at the first floor level is a carved tablet depicting a lion rampant within an oval. The building has two stacks at the ridge. To the right, there is a later addition with a bay that includes a three-light window and two sashed windows above it, along with a gable stack. A decorative rainwater head on the building bears the date 1780. The left-hand return wall has a gable with three bays, where the central bay features arch-headed windows and a Venetian window in the attic. Attached to the rear is a two-storey block that has raised quoins, a band, and three bays of three-light windows on the first floor, which are of a similar date to the front range. This range also has a slate roof.
