5/114 The Golden Lion Hotel

Public-house. Mid C18 with early C19 addition. Hammer-dressed stone, rendered to front, stone slate roof. 2 storeys. Raised quoins, plinth, band, eaves band with gutter brackets and moulded cornice. 4-bay facade. Outer bays have single sashed windows. 2nd bay has semi-circular arched doorway with hood and consoles. Over is semi-circular arched window with raised impost blocks and keystone. 3rd bay has 3-light flat faced mullioned window with chamfered jambs. Set between 3rd and 4th bays at 1st floor level is carved tablet of a lion rampant set within an oval. 2 stacks to ridge. Added to right is later bay with 3-light window with 2 sashed windows over. Gable stack. Decorative rainwater head bears date 1780. Left hand return wall has gable of 3 bays, the central bay of which has arch headed windows and Venetian window to attic. Attached to rear is 2-storey block which has raised quoins, band and 3 bays of 3-light windows to 1st floor of similar date to the front range. Slate roof to this range.
