Description
The Thornhill Arms is a public house built around 1800. It features hammer-dressed stone and a stone slate roof, with a two-cell, double-depth plan. The building stands two storeys high with attics and has a three-bay symmetrical facade. Notable architectural details include rusticated quoins and a doorway with tie-stone jambs, above which is a tall single-light window with a lowered sill. Each outer bay contains a tripartite sash window on both floors. The building has gutter brackets and coped gables with kneelers and stacks.
At the rear, there are two bays of flat-faced mullioned windows on each floor, consisting of two-light and three-light configurations. The ground floor of the first bay has been altered by a 20th-century extension. A tall ashlar lateral stack is located on the left side, while the right-hand return features a three-light flat-faced mullioned window with recessed mullions on each floor and a three-light stepped window in the attic.
