Description
The war memorial, located near the entrance to Victoria Park, was constructed around 1921 and features a statue by the sculptor F. L. Roslyn from London. It consists of a square Portland stone plinth topped with a bronze statue, all enclosed by iron railings. The north face of the plinth is inscribed in relief with the words "IN MEMORY OF THE CALVERLEY MEN WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-18." The statue depicts a woman in classical dress, holding a wreath in one hand and a small angel with a wreath in the other. The memorial is surrounded by low walls with ashlar chamfered coping and original rod railings that bear the maker's name, "Walker and Co, Idle Yorks." It is prominently situated on the edge of the park, facing the main road.
