Description
Lower Carr Farmhouse and the attached barn are located on Carr Road in Pudsey. The farmhouse dates from the late 17th century and has been altered from a house into two cottages, but it has now been returned to a single dwelling. The barn was added in the mid-18th century. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof and consists of two storeys.
The farmhouse features a two-cell end baffle-entry plan. The first cell has a doorway on the left with composite jambs and a deep flat-arched lintel that has a stop-chamfered surround. Each cell contains double-chamfered mullioned windows; the ground floor windows have lowered sills and have been altered to include two wide lights, with inserted cottage doorways, while the window in the second cell is blocked. There is a hoodmould above both windows. On the first floor, there are two windows that were originally four lights but have been altered to two wide lights. The right gable is coped with kneelers and has a stack, while there is another former gable stack at the junction with the barn. The rear of the farmhouse has a two-light window to the left of an inserted doorway, and the other windows have plain stone surrounds.
The attached barn to the left has three bays and features a segmental-arched cart entry with skewbacks, composite jambs, and a chamfered surround. Inside the barn, there are two king-post trusses supported by tall stone piers on the north side.
