Description
Kershaw Farmhouse and the attached barn are located on Kilnshaw Lane in Hebden Bridge. The farmhouse dates from the late 17th century, while the barn was added around 1800. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed stone with watershot masonry on the barn and features a stone slate roof. It is two storeys high.
Originally, the farmhouse was a two-cell structure, with an additional cell created when the barn was built. The south front of the farmhouse features a two-light chamfered mullioned window, with a single light above that was formerly a sash window. Each of the original cells has a four-light double chamfered mullioned window, although two mullions are missing. There are two inserted windows on the first floor.
To the left of the farmhouse is the barn, which has an outshut with quoined angles and coped gables. The right-hand return wall of the farmhouse has a two-light chamfered mullioned window that is missing a mullion, next to a 19th-century inserted doorway. There are two similar windows on the first floor. The rear of the farmhouse features a two-light chamfered window (also lacking a mullion) with a similar window above it. A doorway with composite jambs has a chamfered surround that forms a lobby entry plan. A 19th-century doorway in the added cell has been blocked to create a window, above which is a large former sash window. The building has two stacks on the ridge and two additional stacks. The barn includes a wide cart entry with a straight lintel.
