Description

Erringden Grange Farmhouse and the attached barn date from the early 19th century. The building is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with ashlar quoins and features a stone slate roof. It is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-bay front. The entrance has a doorway with tall monolithic jambs and a plain fanlight above. Flanking the doorway are windows with plain stone surrounds and projecting sills, which were originally sashed but now have modern glazing. The building has a moulded cornice with gutter brackets, and the gables are coped with moulded kneelers and gable stacks.

At the rear, there is a tall semi-circular arched stair window with a dropped keystone, and an attached double-pile range, one cell of which is part of the house. This gable is quoined and coped, featuring two bays of two-light flat faced mullioned windows with plain stone surrounds and projecting sills on each floor. The west face of the barn has a broad semi-circular arched cart entry, with three doorways to the right that have monolithic jambs. There are also thin arrow slit ventilators and a square pitching-hole with a projecting sill. The rear of the barn includes three similar doorways, a two-light window above, and a square pitching hole. The farmhouse and its ancillary farm buildings create an interesting group that represents a model farm.
