Description
Bents is a laithe-house, built in 1839 and marked with the initials "J B". This two-storey, single-bay cottage features a double-pile layout. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and topped with a stone slate roof. The west face includes a mistal doorway with a single light to the right, and a basket-arched cart entry with rusticated voussoirs and tie-stone jambs. Above this entry is a Venetian window with a projecting sill, impost, keystone, and an inscribed lintel. Next to a lean-to porch made of pitch-faced stone, there is a three-light flat-faced mullioned window, and above it, a four-light window. The right-hand return wall has two single-light attic windows in the gable. The rear features a doorway with a sill tie and a four-light window above, along with a similar cart entry and Venetian window above it. The cottage has coped gables and a single stack on the ridge, which has been reduced in height.
