Description
Nos. 5 and 7 Horsehold is a pair of back-to-back cottages built in the early 19th century. Constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof, the building stands two storeys high. The south front features a five-light flat-faced mullioned window above a similar window, along with paired doorways, one of which is blocked. To the left, there is a doorway leading to the cottage, while the right doorway leads to a barn mistal. A segmental arched cart entry with tie-stone jambs is present, along with two chamfered rectangular ventilators above. A two-light chamfered window, which lacks a mullion, is also visible. There is a break in the stonework at the first-floor level, where a former four-light chamfered mullioned window with a lowered sill has been altered to form two wide lights above a single sash window. Next to this, there is a doorway with monolithic jambs beside a single light with a similar feature above. The gables are coped with kneelers, and there are stacks on the roof, including one on the ridge. The rear of the building faces the road. The laithe-house has a similar arrangement to the south front but features quoined angles and a Venetian window above the cart entry, complete with a projecting sill, impost, and raised false keystone.
