Description

Calderside House and Rock Dene are a house, originally a single dwelling, divided into two separate residences, dating from around 1840. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a blue slate roof. The eastern part of the house rises four storeys, while the western part is two storeys high. The east face features two bays of four-light mullioned windows with projecting sills on each floor. Above these, between the third and fourth floors, is a tall stair window with an impost and keystone to a semi-circular arch which has been blocked to create two single-light openings. The right-hand return wall has a lunette in the gable apex. Two gable stacks are present. Quoins are visible on the exterior. The west front is faced in ashlar and is divided into three symmetrical bays with broad sash windows, plain stone surrounds, and projecting sills. A doorway has monolithic jambs. Decorative gutter brackets are also present. The building is listed for group value only.
