Description

The Whitely Arches Railway Viaduct, built in 1840 by George Stephenson, is a significant structure that spans the Halifax Road. It features pitch-faced stone retaining walls and three segmental skewed arches, with the heads of the voussoirs aligned to the courses. A roll moulded band in ashlar runs along the structure, and there is a rough dressed parapet. At either end of the viaduct, there are wide square buttressed ends topped with large cappings.
