Description
Keld Head Farmhouse and the attached barn are a farmhouse and barn complex. The farmhouse features a lintel that reads "IT/1704," while the barn is dated 1814, with later additions. The farmhouse is constructed of rough-cast stone, and the barn is made of dressed stone with ashlar dressings, both topped with slate roofs. The farmhouse has two storeys and five bays, with the first bay being an addition and a projecting barn to the right. It has a coped gable with kneelers, square windows with chamfered reveals and casements, which were likely originally fitted with flat-faced mullions. The ground floor has two windows in the fifth bay and a tall window in the first bay. A gable porch in the fourth bay includes a return entrance and an inner entrance with a dated lintel. The farmhouse features an ashlar cross-axial stack with a cap.
The barn includes three cow house entrances, two windows, and a winnowing door with a dated lintel, as well as square ventilation holes. There is a projecting gable-end stack next to the farmhouse. The rear of the farmhouse has a gabled wing with sashed windows that have glazing bars, a lean-to outshut with small-paned fixed glazing and opening lights, and a two-light single-chamfered-mullioned window. The barn has a ramp leading to its entrance and a lean-to outshut to the left, which is part of a long gabled wing with a stone slate roof.
