Description

Edge End Farmhouse is a house with early 17th century origins that was altered and extended in the early 18th century. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and includes quoins. Originally, it was an L-shaped house consisting of two cells.

The south front showcases a three-light chamfered mullioned window, with a similar window above that has been altered to a sashed window. There is also disturbed stonework leading to an eight-light double chamfered mullioned window, and above that, a four-light chamfered mullioned window. Set back from this is an added 18th-century cell, which has a wide four-light chamfered mullioned window with a king mullion, and above it, a two-light chamfered mullioned window. The gable is coped with kneelers and features a stack.

On the right-hand return wall, there are two-light chamfered mullioned windows on both floors. The left-hand return wall indicates that the roof has been raised to the south. The rear of the house retains its 17th-century character, with a plinth and a moulded string course. It has double chamfered mullioned windows with ovolomoulded mullions, featuring two-light and five-light configurations, while the first floor has chamfered mullioned windows of two lights and five lights, some of which lack mullions. There is a gable stack and another stack at the ridge. A doorway is set in a single-cell, single-storey outshut under a cat-slide roof that connects to the main range.
