Description
Catherine House Farmhouse and the attached barn date from the early 19th century and were formerly used by fellmongers. The cottages consist of three single-cell units, each featuring former three-light flat faced mullioned windows, with two-light windows above on the first floor; all the mullions have been removed. There is a doorway with tie-stone jambs and two stacks at the ridge. The attached barn, which is wider and taller, has a semi-circular arched cart entry with an impost and keystone, above which is a simple Venetian window with a decorated lintel and expressed keystones. It also includes three arrow slit ventilators. On the left end, there is a doorway with monolithic jambs next to a tall three-light flat faced mullioned window, which is blocked. The left return wall features three doorways, two of which have blocked taking-in doors leading to the first floor, all with tie-stone jambs. There is an aisle to the rear. This unusual industrial building is situated high on the moors and is considered isolated as a public nuisance.
