Description
Harleywood Gate Farmhouse and the attached barn is a laithe-house, likely built in the early 19th century. It features hammer-dressed stone with a watershot finish and a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys with an attic.
On the north facade, the barn includes a semi-circular arched cart entry, with a simple Venetian window above it, and two bays of square windows with modern glazing to the left of the arch. The house, which is set back, has two and a half storeys and a lean-to porch positioned within the angle, featuring a modern doorway. There is a similar square window above on the first floor. The left-hand return wall has a small light for the attic, situated over the roof of an added lean-to that is of no particular interest.
The south front displays three linear divisions. The first division is marked by the barn arch with the Venetian window above and a mistal doorway to the left, which has tie-stone jambs. The second and third divisions each contain flat-faced mullioned windows with three lights on each floor, while the ground floor windows do not have mullions. Quoins between the second and third divisions suggest that the laithe-house was originally a single cell, with another cell added slightly later. The building has coped gables with moulded kneelers and two stacks along the ridge.
