Description

Hamer Cottage is a group of three cottages dating to 1770, now combined into a single residence. The building is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. It is two storeys high and features raised quoins and window and door surrounds. There are three bays of two-light, flat-faced mullioned sash windows on each floor. The upper floor windows retain original sashes with 12-pane glazing, while the ground floor windows have modern small-pane glazing that is in keeping with the building’s character. A gabled porch, positioned between the first two bays, features a two-light, chamfered mullioned window, added in the mid-20th century and consistent with the overall style. Side access to the porch is provided. The original doorways, located between the second and third bays and each marked with an expressed keystone, have been converted into windows. The date "1770" is carved in relief on the lintel above the third bay. A convex-moulded stone gutter runs along the top of the building. There is a stack on the right-hand gable and another on the ridge.
