Description

A laithe-house, likely dating from the late 18th century, situated on Colden Lane in Heptonstall. Constructed from hammer-dressed stone, laid in a watershot pattern, the roof is covered with stone slates. The building evokes the character of the 17th century, retaining chamfered mullioned windows. The front doorway features monolithic jambs, accompanied by a four-light window on either side. The first floor has five windows, each with two lights. A two-light window is present on each floor at the junction with the attached barn, which displays a semi-circular arched cart entry. A mistal doorway to the right is distinguished by tie-stone jambs. The rear elevation exhibits similar fenestration. The right-hand return wall incorporates arched ventilators, with one positioned above two others. Two stacks are situated along the ridge. The barn’s roof is a queen-strut design.
