Description
Upper Clough Foot is a house divided into two occupations, dating from the early 17th century. It is built of large dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and a three-room plan, with the original lobby entry located at the rear. The east front follows the slope of the hill, and the service end, which is at a lower level, has lost most of its original features. The main body of the house includes a two-light chamfered mullioned fire-window and a five-light double chamfered mullioned window, with cavetto mullions (two of which have been removed), as well as a similar four-light window in the parlour. On the first floor, there are two chamfered mullioned windows, each with two lights.
At the rear, there is a doorway with a heavy lintel and chamfered surround, which has been blocked, located to the right of a later 18th-century single-storey gabled outshut that has the current doorway. The main range features a three-light chamfered mullioned window, and the right-hand return wall has a four-light double chamfered mullioned window on the first floor. The building has coped gables with kneelers and one off-centre stack at the ridge. Inside, the house retains a large bressumer in the main body and a heck screen.
