Description
Higher Cragg is a house dating from the late 16th century, built from large dressed stone and featuring a modern tile roof. The building is two storeys high and has a three-room layout. The south front showcases double chamfered mullioned windows, including a four-light parlour window with a three-light window above it, a five-light housebody window with a three-light window above, a three-light fire-window with a two-light window above, and a two-light window at the service end.
The left-hand return wall has chamfered mullioned windows, with two lights on the ground floor and three lights on the first floor. The rear of the house features chamfered mullioned windows with two lights and three lights, as well as a pointed arched doorway that has been blocked and is now a window, leading to a rear wing that is no longer present. There is an inserted doorway, and the original baffle entrance is now obscured. The right-hand return wall has a three-light chamfered mullioned window with a similar window above, flanked by two-light double chamfered mullioned windows. The roof has been raised, and the stack has been removed.
