Description
Carr House Farmhouse is an early 17th-century house, originally divided into two occupations. It is constructed of large dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The south front has quoins and a four-bay arrangement based on a three-room plan. A chamfered doorway with a square-headed lintel was originally between the third and fourth bays, but is now a window. Double-chamfered mullioned windows are present on the ground floor of the first three bays. The parlour window in the first bay has four lights, with one mullion removed, and an over window with four lights. The second bay features a six-light housebody window, with two lights solid and lacking two mullions, and a hood mould that runs continuously over the first two bays with a straight return. Above the second bay’s window is a four-light chamfered mullioned window. The third bay has a three-light fire window with a hood mould, and a four-light flat-faced mullioned window above it, slightly to the right, with a small square, chamfered opening above the door. The service wing has altered windows; however, the first-floor window retains its chamfered surround. The left-hand return wall has a finely dressed extruded stack to the gable, with two further stacks to the ridge - one brick stack centrally placed between the second and third bays, and one stone stack to the right-hand gable. A late 19th-century two-storey extension to the rear, which partially overlays the roof, is not included in the listing.
