Description
Bethel Methodist Church is a chapel built in 1853, constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a slate roof. The building is square in plan and features a rear wing that houses the Sunday School. It stands two storeys tall and has a four-bay facade. The outer bays contain doorways with flat pilasters and a cornice, while the central bays feature two semi-circular arched sash windows that still have their original glazing. The first floor also has four similar windows, and the return walls have four additional bays of windows, with those on the first floor illuminating the gallery. The roof is pyramidal and has a moulded cornice with gutter brackets.
Inside, the church has a horseshoe-shaped gallery that retains its box pews. The organ is situated within an elliptical arched recess, which has an architrave that rises from a moulded impost supported by a console. The plaster ceiling features a central floral motif with a dove at the center carrying a laurel leaf.
