Description
The gatepiers, gates, flanking walls, and piers date from the early to mid-19th century. They are constructed from coursed stone and ashlar, featuring cast- and wrought-iron gates. The gatepiers are square in shape, each with a plinth and two panels that have chamfered sunk crosses, separated by gadrooned necking and an entablature with a cornice that rises to a semi-circle on each side, topped with an urn on a stand. There is a pilaster on the inner side of each pier from which the gates are hung. The gates are symmetrical, with a double leaf that ramps at the center. They have bars with scrolled finials, while the intermediate panels are filled with scroll- and wheel-work, and the top section features petalled ovals. The wall ramps down on each side and has ashlar coping. There are 18 piers at regular intervals, some with plinths, all featuring two recessed panels, an entablature with a pyramidal panel in the frieze, and a flat capstone.
