Description
The gate piers, flanking walls, and pedestrian gates to Burton Hall date from the mid-19th century and are constructed of ashlar. There is a pair of square main piers, which are flanked by pairs of lower piers that contain wooden pedestrian gates. Each side features a curved screen wall. The main gate piers have semi-circular headed panels that display a variety of decorative elements, including scrolled cartouches, square panels, brackets, and acanthus leaves. Above these, there are elaborate cornices with concave sides, topped with gadrooned, swagged, and bracketed ball finials. The pierced wooden pedestrian gates are accompanied by similarly decorated lower piers. The balustraded screen walls are adorned with urns at the principal bay divisions, with three urns on each side.
